Our Growing Edge: A Recipe Roundup

Hey everybody! This month I am hosting the August 2014 edition of Our Growing Edge-a monthly blogging event that shares recipes. Yippee! This past month there definitely were some must try recipes that I am super excited to share with you! Thanks to everybody for sharing great recipes and tips. It’s totally only natural for me to start with some sweets… I love angel food cake. I love banana bread. So I am sure I would love this light and fluffy Banana chiffon cake. Sugar Free Banana Muffins? Yes, please! How about a delicious Earl Grey Crème Brulee. One of my personal favorites to order out-but have never attempted on my own. Doesn’t look too tricky! How can it be?

I admittedly am extremely saddened that in two short weeks I will be returning to my job (I never thought I’d say that by the way-too tough I was…not!-new me laughs at old me)…saddened because I have been fortunate enough to spend four spectacular months at home with my little cupcake and I can’t imagine what it will be like to not have her by my side all day. Wait a minute…four months?! Where has the time gone? It seems nearly impossible that 122 days has gone by in the blink of an eye…but it’s true. Today…Jewel is four months old! Unbelievable. Well, hello! Yes, it has been a while since I have last posted…but I can assure you it’s for a good reason. Friday, April 18th at 11:31 am our lives forever changed, meet Miss Julianna (aka-Cutie Pie). This past week has been a whirlwind. I haven’t been in my kitchen except to warm up food or wash bottles. I have been spending most of my time on my couch snuggling. And my to-do list keeps on growing…and growing. But this little cutie pie is absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Speaking of pie (ha!)…In Matt’s desperation for something sweet and baked this Easter…he picked up a little peach pie. You know we couldn’t make it all […]

Almost There!

Ah, spring break has arrived! And along with it (finally) some nice weather! No recipe today…just a baby bump update. Our due date is quickly approaching, and maybe…just maybe my spring break will become an early summer vacation. Only time will tell! Taking guesses…What do you think? In all of our preparations for the hospital, there was one thing I wanted to be sure to do; get together thank you boxes for the nurses that will be taking care of us during our stay. Many high school friends of mine have grown up to become nurses. I could never be a nurse. They have to be some of the most amazing people I know. So in order to show some […]

Orange Poppy Seed Cake

Orange Poppy Seed Cake

I have been dreaming about this cake for a while. Fluffy cream cheese frosting, the fresh and zesty flavor of oranges, the speckles of poppy seeds-all whirled together in a dreamy light vanilla cake. Sigh. Who loves cake this much? I came across the idea when I was searching for unique ways to use the oranges that my dad had sent up from Florida. Many versions were made into dense pound cakes-which were probably delicious, but not what I was going for. I imagined a cake that was light and fluffy…perhaps so I didn’t feel so guilty. Never mind the fact that it’s still a cake! I have tested countless versions of vanilla cake, added and removed ingredients, and after many […]
