Peanut Butter Snickers Cake

Peanut Butter Snickers Cake

I’d like to start by apologzing, because this cake will be your new enemy. Why? Because it will stare at you until you have devoured every…last…morsel.  And then…then you will dwell on the fact that you ate an entire cake. By yourself. And you will most likely feel completely ashamed, because not only did you eat it all…but you’ll want more. It’s fine. I’ve made this cake twice in the past two weeks. In my defense, the first time I made it, it was shared with family. I only had a sliver, I swear. But the second time. Haha, oh the second time. That cake stayed here. If you are like me, once this cake is gone you will likely go […]

Craving Sunshine

It’s about that time of year. Ba-humbug to being cold. The winter weather can seriously take a hike. Amidst the planning of our new garden and ordering of fruit trees, I am seriously longing for some sunshine. February, upstate NY, not likely. We really haven’t had a real winter. I think that it maybe snowed once. In fact, we haven’t had a snow day at all this year. I don’t know if that has ever happened in the history of NY winters. After a statement like that, I have surely jinxed us with a March full of snow. (I apologize in advance to those who live here.) So what’s a girl who is craving sunshine do? Bake a cake. Psssh! It is the most […]

Ricotta Orange Bundt Cake

Ahhhh, January. Brutally cold days, whipping wind, flurries of snow, and oranges! That’s right, oranges. The one and only thing that ever so slightly reminds me that somewhere out there, there is a sun shining…and warmth. Yes, warmth. Mmmm. Here you can read about the box of Honeybell oranges that happens to show up on my porch each frigid January. I have quite a few savory orange recipes that I always want to write about, like homemade sesame orange chicken or orange zest glazed salmon (a serious fave), but what I always end up doing is baking something most fantabulous that I simply cannot resist sharing. And this cake I MUST share. This orange-a-lish-ous cake is basically out of this […]

Blueberry and Peach Bundt Cake

Blueberry and Peach Bundt Cake

Sundays are great because it’s the perfect day to spend time with family. Have you ever heard the song, That’s What I Love About Sundays (Craig Morgan)? It’s one of my all-time favorites, because that’s what Sunday is to me-family time and relaxation. One of my favorite memories is heading up to grandma’s after church for Sunday dinner. So last weekend-that’s what we did-sort of. Only this time, I made dinner. And when this girl is in charge of Sunday dinner, dessert is a must! When you are busy with the task of whipping up dinner and a dessert, I like to make sure the dessert is easy, yet special and obviously delicious. That’s why I love Bundt cakes-they are […]

Banana Cake with Peanut Butter Creme

Let me start by saying, I have baked this cake twice in two weeks. Twice. Last Saturday I baked this cake to celebrate Matt’s birthday. It was topped with the most fabulous homemade peanut brittle and an abundance of tall white candles. And although the cake was a thing of beauty (seriously-it was pretty sweet), my pictures turned out…horribly. Bah. So this week…I baked the cake again. Yes…just for photos. But this time I accidently burned the peanut brittle (because I was getting too many laughs for dancing to a tune on Jewel’s toy-thing-a-ma-jig), so it is what it is. A (still) mighty fine and absolutely tasty cake. Peanut butter and chocolate is a pretty serious staple in our lives. […]

Spiced Pear Cake with Bourbon Caramel Sauce

Lately I have been loving obsessed with rustic, fruit cakes. This obsession is pretty obvious if you have been to my house lately, or at a gathering I attended over the holiday weekend. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t get enough of the stuff. I am going with the fact that these cakes are jam packed with fresh, local fruit. So that instantly makes my cake obsession healthier and more acceptable, right? Right. Oh yea…and I might have added a smidge of bourbon in the deliciously ooey vanilla bean caramel topping…which just makes it…even better! Once you’ve had homemade caramel sauce, you might as well forget ever buying it in a jar at the store again, ever.  […]

Blueberry and Plum Almond Cake

The end of summer is sort of bittersweet, don’t ya think? Warm summer nights, weekend barbeques, trips to the ice cream stand, and evening walks with my family will quickly be coming to an end. Yet at the same time, I get excited for things like end of summer harvests, the changing leaves, and the crisp, fall days ahead. It hardly seems possible that it’s the end of August. I think I finally realized it the other day, when our local produce shop had a sign out for fresh, organic pears, plums, and butternut squash. I’ve been in denial about the week ahead for some time now (only because I will be trading days spent with my little cupcake […]

Three Years

Yesterday Matt and I celebrated our three year wedding anniversary. Cheers! We had a very diy wedding, and among all of the handmade items was my wedding cake! That’s right…this crazy bride made her own cake, with the help of her sisters that is. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I knew what I wanted! My aunt Suzie’s carrot cake. I suppose I could have had somebody else make it, but where is the fun in that?! So the day before our wedding, my sisters and I were cracking eggs, sifting flour, and frosting cakes. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Making your own cake does have it’s advantages you know! Like…you know it’s going to taste […]

A Baby Shower, A Birthday, and Some Darn Good Cake

I am glad it’s Monday. Although this weekend was full of fun festivities, I was not at all disappointed to put away the cake pans after a weekend full of parties. Remember the gender reveal cake I made a few months back? On Saturday we celebrated Kelly’s baby shower-my how time flies (when you aren’t the pregnant one)! The cake (and cupcakes) reflected the nautical theme of the shower. I love the blue, teal, and red color combination. It was perfect for a summery get-together. The buoy cupcakes are my favorite. What I have learned from this shower is that Pinterest has turned me into a themed party monster. Does anybody else have that problem? I often wonder how people planned parties without snagging a […]

A Happy Anniversary

Yesterday was our second anniversary, kind of. Really it was our second wedding anniversary…but Matt and I have been together quite a while, practically forever! Here is a picture from high school (I was in tenth grade and Matt was in eleventh). Baby faces (I am sure he will appreciate this picture)! Hey, it was a long time ago…twelve years! Anyhow, two years ago I married my best friend. It was a fabulous (and HOT) day that we’ll never forget! We had such a great time celebrating with our family and friends. Besides the fact that I married my high school sweetheart, another pretty awesome thing about our wedding was that my sisters and I made our cake: Aunt Suzie’s famous carrot cake […]
